Job Posting: Looking For Additional PHP, JavaScript, and Database Driven Websites Instructors

We are currently looking for additional instructors for PHP, JavaScript, and our Database Driven Websites classes to help supplement the demand for these classes.Â We are looking for instructors with some teaching experience, and hands on knowledge in these areas.Â

Hi! I know you have been (understandably) focused on your son’s health and your family; however, I was wanting to find out some of what the resolution was regarding your cob building. Also, I wanted to see if you had discovered any networks regarding this style of building that are in the Utah area. I have enjoyed your style of blogging :). We uncovered you by blogging about cob in Utah. I work with children and so I also wish you the best with your son and your family.

Hello Jenna! Thanks for the post! I haven’t heard anything recently about cob recipes in the Valley, though most of the ground here in the Salt Lake area tends to be clay. That means for real cob to work, you may need to add more sand to make it “lighter”.

That being said, I was able to mix in some tall grass stalks in with just plain dirt and got a very stable mix. It was solid, and without the lime whitewash it took about two full years to break down. With lime, it would probably have worked just fine.

The main obstacle I ran into was getting zoning permission for a cob building. It seems the State of Utah hasn’t identified cob as a building material. Of course you could just call it monolithic adobe and get by that way (it should work). There are also a couple of architects in Salt Lake that are green architects and showed interest in my project before West Valley City killed any hopes for it. I would suggest talking with them for any ideas.
